Youth with a panpipe

italian school

The painting is mentioned as part of the Borghese collection in the 1693 inventory, where it is attributed to Titian. The subsequent repaintings and the crude execution led to its attribution to an anonymous painter of the 17th century in the Fidecommisso inventory of the 1833. The panel has recently been assigned to Giovanni Piancastelli, the first director of the Galleria Borghese (1902), as well as a painter.
